New faces in the Office of Research
KENNESAW, Ga. (Sept. 6, 2018) -- The Office of Research has expanded its staff with four new people to help advance its mission of supporting the research and creative endeavors of KSU faculty and students.
Kim Carter, who arrived in late August, is the new grants manager. She oversees the
fiscal administration of grants awarded to KSU researchers. This entails monitoring
purchases, overseeing hiring, and making sure that the grant provisions are utilized
appropriately. She works directly with KSU researchers to keep them informed of the
budgetary life cycle of their grants and troubleshoots any problems that may arise.
Originally from Kentucky, Carter spent 13 years in Kentucky state government as an auditor for the Department of Revenue and then a program manager for the Office of Highway Safety. She earned all three of her degrees at Midway University, a local private institution in Midway, Kentucky. Carter received an associate’s degree in computer information systems, a bachelor’s degree in business and most recently an MBA in 2016.
“I became aware of KSU and its growing reputation through some friends who attended the university,” said Carter. “I am looking forward to starting my new adventure in Georgia and at KSU.”
Alexandra Mompremier, also works on the postaward services side as a grants assistant.
Starting in the spring at KSU, she
focuses on the operational tasks associated with the award management of grants such
as ordering supplies that KSU researchers would use in carrying out their projects.
Mompremier previously worked as an administrative team assistant at PricewaterhouseCoopers in downtown Atlanta, and as a medical assistant in a dermatology office. Although she grew up in Boston, she lived her formative years in Georgia and then returned to Boston for college, earning a bachelor’s degree in sociology at Boston University in 2016. Mompremier’s long-term career goal is working in the healthcare field, possibly as a physician’s assistant.
“Since returning to Kennesaw after 5 ½ years away, KSU has exploded and changed dramatically, especially with the exciting research occurring here,” said Mompremier. “I like the Office of Research’s work environment and having the opportunity to build strong relationships with the staff as well as the faculty and student researchers we support.”
Kim Hunt, who came in early August, is a preaward specialist. She will work mainly
on the Marietta Campus with the faculty in the College of Computing and Software Engineering and the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology. She is responsible for assisting faculty with their grant applications such as budget
preparation and will ensure all paperwork is complete before submission to funding
agencies for consideration.
Hunt has spent the majority of her career as a research associate, managing the administrative tasks such as the budgets and the progress reports for grants awarded to researchers. She has worked at the Georgia Hospital Association, the University of South Florida and Georgia State University. Hunt earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from Ohio University, and a master’s degree in public health from Emory University.
“I am excited to join KSU’s Office of Research and look forward to supporting faculty and staff grow their research portfolio,” said Hunt. “I am also looking forward to meeting with the faculty at the Marietta campus and learning how I can best help them with the grant process.”
Joëlle Walls joined KSU in late July as the communications specialist, managing the
internal and external public relations and
communications for the Office of Research and the Office of Undergraduate Research. Through web content, publications and social media channels, she promotes faculty
and student research and creative activities at KSU as well as the support services
provided to KSU researchers by the Office of Research.
Walls has worked in higher education for over twelve years, including as a public relations specialist in the Provost’s Office at the University of Georgia. She earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from the University of West Georgia and master’s degrees in mass communication and early childhood education at the University of Georgia.
“I am happy to be part of the Office of Research as KSU continues to build and support its growing research community of faculty and student investigators,” she said.
