Kennesaw State-based MycoLogic earns top award at Georgia AgTech Summit

KENNESAW, Ga. | July 19, 2023 — A startup company founded by researchers at Kennesaw State University and supported by the university finished first recently at the annual Georgia AgTech Summit, hosted by the Georgia Department of Economic Development.

MycoLogic, a product of KSU’s BioInnovation Lab, was invited as part of Georgia Research Alliance’s Greater Yield Initiative, and the company’s representatives were tasked with delivering a pitch between 8-10 minutes.

The Georgia AgTech Summit explored topics such as precision agriculture, food processing and controlled-environment growing, with MycoLogic ultimately winning the popular vote.

The summit is part of a multi-step process that allows Georgia Research Alliance to first identify and evaluate emerging technologies at the university level, then help bring those ideas to the marketplace to stimulate the state’s agricultural innovation.

MycoLogic allows farmers to grow a higher quantity and better quality of specialty mushroom by providing 40-foot shipping containers designed to optimize conditions for growth, including temperature, humidity and carbon dioxide.

Because of its controlled interior environment, MycoLogic’s prototype is versatile in nature and can function in virtually any climate.

“I think MycoLogic resonates with a wide number of people because it presents a straight-forward and reasonable solution to the very large and difficult problem of ensuring sustainable and quality food production throughout the 21st century,” said MycoLogic CEO Luc Lalire, who delivered the pitch at the competition. “While not the whole answer, MycoLogic offers a very clear step in the right direction with little downside."

The startup impressed earlier this year in another pitch competition, finishing as a finalist at the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFB) Ag Innovation Challenge in Puerto Rico while also capturing the competition’s People’s Choice Award.

MycoLogic will launch its first commercial products this fall. In the meantime, MycoLogic is accepting applicants for a paid pilot testing. For more information, visit https://mycologic.solutions/.
