College of Science and Mathematics honors federally funded researchers
KENNESAW, Ga. | Feb 10, 2023
The College of Science and Mathematics at Kennesaw State University honored its federally funded faculty members Thursday afternoon, recognizing 28 researchers across several disciplines who are conducting impactful research supported by federal grants.
“These awards are a clear national recognition of your work,” said Kojo Mensa-Wilmot, dean of the College of Science and Mathematics and professor of molecular and cellular biology. “It’s wonderful for KSU to have these awards, because it puts us on the map without any disputes.”
The College of Science and Mathematics generated more than $3 million in external funding during FY22, accounting for nearly a quarter of the whole university’s awarded funding.
Funding generated by the college has soared over the past three years, totaling more than $7.3 million during that span.
“Continuing to build important, impactful research rests very often in teams. Teams that are made up of individuals like yourselves — principal investigators and co-PIs, but also importantly, students,” said Juliet Langman, dean of Kennesaw State’s Graduate College. “Therefore, building a strong PhD program that can support the development of the next generation of researchers, likely working in industry and business more so than in academia, is something that as dean of the Graduate College here at KSU, I stand fully behind.”
Federal sponsors of the college’s research include the U.S. Department of Energy, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Agriculture – National Institute of Food and Agriculture, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
