Developing Interdisciplinary Teams to Engage in Undergraduate Research

interdisciplinary-nursing-researchDr. Sara Evans, Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice, Kennesaw State University

Dr. Jocelyn Evans, Associate Dean of the College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities, University of West Florida

Interdisciplinary research teams have the power to address complicated, multi-faceted social problems in a way that goes beyond what any one faculty member can accomplish on their own.  In particular, projects that involve multiple faculty members from different disciplines give a variety of students access to the undergraduate research experience in ways that tap into their interests, abilities, and experience. Faculty members have opportunities to answer “big” questions from multiple perspectives, but many do not make choices about collaborators in a calculated and deliberate way. This workshop will guide faculty teams in working through a questionnaire identifying personal strengths, habits, values, and perspectives on engaging in undergraduate research. This is an interactive workshop and we invite faculty teams/groups (or potential collaborators) to attend together with the goal of developing and strengthening their relationship as research collaborators.
