College Students' Perceptions of Genetically Modified Foods

Principal Investigator: Tatiana Smithson (President)

Co-Investigators: Samantha Swartzendruber, Amy Graham, Charlene Quainoo, Jasmin Lopez, Camille Atlan

Abstract: Genetically modified food is increasingly common, but there is little research on how much college students understand about genetically modified food and what their attitudes are toward genetically modified food. In this study, students will report their attitudes and knowledge about genetically modified food both before and after viewing an informational video about the topic.

Health Behaviors in College Students

Principal Investigator: Sharonjeet Kaur (Secretary)

Co-Investigators:  Hannah Bauguess, Eun Sol Chang, Alyssa Venn, Lauren Rohde, Fatma Aldihri, Ryan Page, Shawyun Khoshneviszadeh, Amna Glissa

Abstract: College students are prone to facing health issues, and understanding the factors related to these health issues is crucial for developing new measures such as campus resources to support students. The purpose of this study is to collect and analyze data on how students' classification (for example, first-year students versus seniors) is related to student health. A sample of students’ various aspects of health, which includes sleep habits, diet, exercise, illnesses, and mental health, will be examined to investigate trends across gender, GPA, employment, family, classification, etc.

Men and Women's Experiences in STEM Classes

Principal Investigator: Emma Evans (Treasurer)

Co-Investigators: Kaelyn Spiers, Zeljka Zec, Jummy Nipo, Ayo Awodu

Abstract: Research suggests that women and men have different experiences in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) courses. This study will examine current college students' experiences in STEM courses and their perceptions of gender equity in STEM courses.
