NCUR 2019: Abstract Review

Thank you for your interest in being an abstract reviewer for NCUR 2019! With over 4,000 abstracts in all disciplines submitted, your service as a reviewer is crucial to the success of this conference.

Eligibility

  • All faculty, staff, administrators, and graduate students who have expertise in one or more of the abstract categories are encouraged to help review.

Time Commitment

  • Each abstract is 300 words or fewer. We aim to limit the number of abstracts per reviewer to 10 or fewer when possible.
  • We estimate that an average reviewer should be able to complete 10 reviews within 45-50 minutes.

Duties

  • Create an account at the NCUR portal: https://apps.cur.org/ncur2019/account/Choose.aspx and then log in to your account.
  • If the portal indicates you already have an account but you haven't created a log in, click on "Forgot my Password" to reset it.
  • Click on "Abstract Review and and Admin"
  • Click on "My Abstracts to Review" - you should see a list of abstracts for you to review.
  • You will evaluate each abstract according to the following four criteria listed under "NCUR 2019 Abstract Guidelines"
    1. Clearly state the central research question and/or purpose of the project.
    2. Provide brief, relevant scholarly or research context (no actual citations required) that demonstrate its attempt to make a unique contribution to the area of inquiry.
    3. Provide a brief description of the research methodology.
    4. State conclusions or expected results and the context in which they will be discussed. Note that it is not required that students have results in their abstracts at this point.
  • You will rate each abstract on a 1 to 5 scale, with "5" indicating an exemplary project. On average, 85%-90% of your reviews should score in the 3-5 range. Poor abstracts should receive a 1 or 2 along with an explanation regarding why you gave that score. Written comments are not needed for abstracts that score in the 3-5 range.
  • Remember that these are undergraduate research projects and that the typical acceptance rate at NCUR is 85%-90%. Any feedback provided in the comment box should be constructive, not destructive.
