IBC Review Process

After your protocol is submitted, the IBC office will perform a pre-review to determine whether the project is exempt based on the NIH recombinant nucleic acid guidelines or requires review by the committee. Next, the KSU Biosafety Officer will review the protocol to determine whether any updates to lab facilities are needed, or if any other requirements must be met.

Finally, the entire IBC will discuss the protocol at the next monthly meeting (if the project requires full review). After the meeting, the IBC will communicate with you about the decision and any questions they might have.

Please note that protocols need to be submitted 2 weeks before the next IBC meeting to ensure timely review. Exempt research will not require committee review and will be processed as soon as received. Our calendar lists all scheduled meetings for the current academic year.
