About

Purpose of the Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee

The University has established a program for activities involving animals in accordance with the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (The Guide). The University accepts responsibility for the care and use of laboratory animals and ensures that all individuals involved understand their individual and collective responsibilities. The University’s animal care policy and procedures are fully described in the document “Assurance of Compliance with Public Health Service Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.”

Scope and Oversight of the Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee

The IACUC advises the Vice President for Research (the University’s Institutional Official) about problems or deficiencies and recommends steps for correction. The IACUC also reviews all animal use protocols for consideration of humane animal care and use and performs semiannual reviews of the animal care and use program and facilities as required by federal regulations and Kennesaw State University policy.

All laboratory use of animals at Kennesaw State University must be reviewed and approved by the IACUC. To request a review, the Principal Investigator must complete a protocol form via Cayuse. If external funding is associated with the protocol, a copy of the funding proposal or final animal use information sent to the funding agency should be attached to the protocol.
